Apple is adding adjustable Liquid Glass translucency to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
To improve readability.
The update will make system menus more matte, significantly improving text readability.
Julia Clover from MacRumors discovered this new feature in the latest iOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1 betas. The effect applies to all Liquid Glass elements, including the Apple Music player and Safari browser windows.
Until now, iOS 26 didn’t allow users to adjust translucency levels – the only option was to disable the effect entirely in Accessibility settings. With the new update, the toggle has been moved to a more fitting location: Settings → Display & Brightness.
iOS 26.1 is expected to roll out to iPhones by the end of next week.
